Polish Society for Legal History (Polish: Polskie Towarzystwo Historii Prawa, abbreviated as PTHP) is a Polish association, members of which represent all branches of legal history, that is, history of state, history of law, history of political and legal doctrines, history of administration and administrative thought. The Society was established in 2021. It focuses on research and educational activities and follows five fundamental values: cooperation, community, support, identity, and openness.
The PTHP was established in order to coordinate cooperation of legal historians in Poland. Extensive, long-term research and educational projects can be only realized with collaborative approach, which require institutional support and reaching outside the academia. The mission of the Society is to provide the former, and facilitate the latter. The PTHP plans to inspire ambitious research and educational projects, seek new fields of research and innovative methodologies, support students and young researchers, simultaneously providing a safe space for creative and critical discourse concerning all branches of legal history. At the same time, the Society tries to evaluate Polish legal historical research in the context of the global development of the social sciences and humanitites, as well as to monitor the status of legal historical courses at law faculties in Poland.
