Summer school in Fribourg-Neuchâtel (June 2023)
The summer school took place on 20-22 June 2023 under the title "Lire et comprendre les sources médiévales et modernes: enjeux et défis pour l’avenir".
The school was organized by the University of Geneva in cooperation with the State Archives in Fribourg and Neuchâtel. Organizators were Prof. Noëlle-Laetitia Perret (University of Geneva), Dr. Grégoire Oguey (State Archives of Neuchâtel), Dr. Lionel Dorthe (State Archives of Fribourg), Dr. Adrien Wyssbrod (University of Fribourg), Dr. Ignazio Alessi (University of Geneva) and Dr. Gavino Scala (University of Geneva). They were accompanied by other members of FONTES Project, that is: Prof. Beatrice Pasciuta (University of Palermo), Prof. Emanuele Conte (EHESS), Prof. Łukasz Marzec (Jagiellonian University in Kraków), Dr. Anna Maria Floris (University of Palermo), Dr. Roberto Imperia (University of Palermo), Dr. Kacper Górski (Jagiellonian University in Kraków).
The summer school was hosted by the State Archives of both Fribourg and Neuchâtel. Over a dozen doctoral students from several Swiss universities had the opportunity not only to listen lectures on medieval and early modern legal sources, but to explore digital tools helpful while studying legal historical sources as well. All participants had the chance to visit the cantonal archives of Fribourg and Neuchâtel and see archival materials preserved therein. Additionally, the Kraków team presented the platform of the FONTES Project. On the last day of the school five young scholars (Anna Floris, Roberto Imperia, Gavino Scala, Ignazio Alessi and Kacper Górski) who are members of the FONTES Project had the opportunity to share their research experiences with younger colleagues from Swiss universities.
