The textbook to be published at the end of the FONTES project is designed to introduce advanced students to medieval legal sources. First published by G.B Palumbo Editore (https://fontes.palumboeditore.it/) in open access in digital format, then in a physical version, edited by Emanuele Conte (Roma Tre, EHESS) and Louis Genton (EHESS) the handbook brings together some twenty articles written in French by specialists in the history of medieval law and medieval history. The contributions are divided into four parts. The first is devoted to an introduction to the theory, typologies and materiality of medieval legal sources. The second is devoted to the sources of ius commune: civil law, canon law and doctrinal and dialectical sources. The next part will contain case studies on the sources of local European legislation. Finally, the last part will explore the relationship between law and its practice in trials, administrations and medieval communes.
